When did America begin going down hill?

FACTS:

When did America begin going down hill, was a question asked on a local radio show.

One caller said it began during the Regan presidency.

OPINIONS:

In my opinion, America began going down hill when americans stole the land from Native Americans.

In my opinion, Native Americans experienced hurricanes and other natural diasters. They were able to survive without depending on local, state, or federal governments. Perhaps when Americans stole the Native American’s land, Americans should have borrowed the Native American’s “values”.

We, Native Americans are survivors. You are welcome to visit with us at our casinos.

The 2000 Lafourche Parish Council, AKA 5-4 council

FACTS:

The Lafourche Parish Council of 2000, some of whom governed under the Caillouet administration, campaigned on solving a serious health problem in Lafourche Parish. A serious respitory health situation existed because of the dust from parish shell roads. Ninety five percent of the parish streets in the area represented by councilmen Marlbrough and Lorraine was hard surfaced, which solved the health problem caused by road dust. The 2000 council majority five sucessfully defended the people’s parish charter. Although the 2000 council majority was despicably wronged by the District Attorney, they were still able to accomplish many important projects for the people of Lafourche and leave the present council 45 million dollars in surplus.

OPINIONS:

I often wondered why the organization known as Lafourche First would spend so much money and time in an effort to replace elected officials who done so much good for all of the people of Lafourche parish.

In my opinion, the present day council is a product of Lafourche First, more taxes with less productivity.

In my opinion, the one and only positive comment this present administration can lay claim to, is that they are improving drainage. Perhaps someone should explain to them that we have been in a drouth ever since they have been in office.

Again we ask, Lafourche First, where are you?

Reconsider

FACTS:

A regular scheduled lafourche parish council meeting was held on tuesday, mAY 23, 2006. One of the many items on the adgenda addressed the appointment of two individuals to fill vacancies on the fire protection district number 6 board. Councilman Tommy Lasseigne recommended Mr. Fontenot and Mr. Gaubert. Councilman Michael Matherne recommended Mr. Meire. The majority of the council voted to appoint Mr. Fontenot and Mr. Gaubert to fill the vacancies. The meeting continued. After all of the items on the adgenda was addressed, a reconsideration of the appointments to the fire protection board was called for. Councilman Phillip Gouaux stated that he didn’t know if the reconsideration would be legal. Mr. Matherne motioned to appoint Mr. Gaubert and Mr.Meire. Mr. Matherne’s motion passed 5 to 4 with toups, Lasseigne, Lorraine, and Atzenhoffer voting against.

OPINIONS:

Every vote made by a councilman is important to lafourche parish and its citizens. In my opinion, when any councilman has a question about any issue, the councilman should refrain from voting until the question can be answered. The District Attorney may give an opinion on the reconsideration. Right or wrong, it has the appearance of impropriety. Was this the action Lafourche first had in mind for parish government?

Today being Memorial day, I would like to express my gratitude to all Americans who gave up so much in order to retain our freedom.

Lafourche Parish Council Meeting of May 23,2006

FACTS:

Lafourche Parish Council chairperson, Brent Callais gave an explaination on his reason for voting against councilman Tyrone William’s waterline project. Mr. Callais stated that the water district has its priority set and he wasn’t going to interfere with that procedure.

OPINIONS:

In my opinion, Mr. Callais used sound judgement. A similar situation occured in Mr. Callais’ district on East 40th Street about two years ago, where a 3 inch waterline was installed. In my opinion, not only did Mr. Callais not use sound judgement, but caused the council to violate their own ordinance. Mr. Callais had the council overide the water district’s priority list. This violation was brought up to the attention of Lafourche Parish District Attorney Cam Morvant. In my opinion, Mr. Callais inconsistency is consistent with his political views.

Lafourche Parish Council Meeting of May 23,2006

FACTS:

The Lafourche Parish District Attorney Cam Morvant was in attendence for a portion of the Lafourche parish council meeting of May 23, 2006.

Speaking on the issue of issueing opinions requested by the council, Mr. Morvant stated “that is what I was elected to do”.

OPINIONS:

In my opinion, with all due respect to my friend Cam Morvant, I must humbly disagree with his statement. The citizens of Lafourche parish, in my opinion, did not vote for a D.A. to control the Lafourche Parish Council.

In my opinion, the citizens did not vote for a D.A. to act as the king of Lafourche Parish.

In my opinion, the citizens elected a D.A. to prosicute criminals, even if they turn out to be elected officials or members of their administrations.

In my opinion, if the organization of Lafourche First was still in existance, they may request of the D.A. to please protect the Lafourche Parish citizenry.

May 24,2006 Radio talk show in Lafourche parish

FACTS:

Lafourche Parish President Charolette Randolph and DPW Director Ray Cheramie were guests on KLRZ talk on the bayou.

comment by Ray Cheramie: The US Corps of Engineers seems to be pleased with this new administration.

OPINIONS:

After 2 1/2 years, at what point is this administration no longer new?

FACTS:

On May 12,2003, a new political organization by the name of “Lafourche First” was represented by Michael Smith, Bill Melancon, and C. Lindy Hoffmann on KTIB radio talk show Mr. Smith indicated that Lafourche First would endorse candidates for Lafourche Parish government who had the same core values as Lafourche First. Mr. Smith stated that the organization’s core values are vision, teamwork, and quality of life.

Lafourche parish president Charolette Randolph, who was endorsed by Lafourche first, stated on the May 24TH radio show, “that’s why we are here, to protect”. She was responding to questions called in by listereners.

OPINIONS:

Is to protect, a new core value or did MRS. Randolph ever share Lafourche First core values? Where is Lafourche first today? Are you proud of today’s Lafourche Parish President and Council?

My opinion is that at least one of the following individuals should appear on KLRZ radio talk show and inform the citizenary. The following individuals were listed as members of the board of directors for Lafourche First as of April 10, 2003: Ronald Adams, Carol LeBlanc, Al Danos, Jane Birdsall, Harold Block, Gwen Cheramie, Cullen Curole, Dan Duplantis, David Duplantis, William Eroche, Paul Tom Gaudet, Jake Giardina, Grant Gravois, Don Harang, C. Lindy Hoffmann, Joe Leonard, Chick Martin, Bill Melancon, and Larry Weidel.

Master plans at tax-payers expense

FACTS:

During the Lafourche parish council election of 2003, then candidate for parish president, Charolette Randolph stressed the need for a master plan for Lafourche parish’s infrastructure.

To better protect the citizens and property of Lafourche parish and the surrounding area, we need to rebuild the barrier islands and the wetlands.

An article in the Lafourche parish Daily Comet on May 22,2006, “Council to Consider Master Plan for Bayou Projects”, states that the council will consider spending $45,000 for a master plan to develop additional parks and recreational facilities along the waterway {Bayou Lafourche}. According to councilman Brent Callais, this plan may enable us to get grant money from the federal government,

OPINIONS:

Lafourche parish president Charolette Randolph and the present day council was left with a 45 million dollar surplus. Two and a half years later, Lafourche parish has no infrastructure master plan or any money. What happened? The parish president’s solution to rebuilding the barrier islands and the wetlands is “we need our fair share of oil revenue money”.

This Lafourche parish president and council just recently squandered away $74,000 on an unnecessary election and is now considering squandering away $45,000 on an unimportant plan. All of this at the tax payers expense without benefits to the taxpayers.

In my opinion, the priorites of this Lafourche parish council is not the betterment of the parish but is the betterment of their own future political ambitions.

Undocumented immigrants

FACTS:

Are there any undocumented immigrants working in Lafourche parish?

OPINIONS:

In my opinion, laws exist which prohibits the hiring of undocumented immigrants. Lafourche parish law enforcement should simply enforce the law.
