Lafourche Parish, Good for the Politician or Good for the Tax Payers?

FACTS:

In National Politics, the concern of our national elected officials appear to be on which political party will have control of the Senate and house after the upcoming November mid-term elections.  Both parties being equally pathetic seem to show very little concern for the young victim in the Congressman Foley incident.

OPINIONS:

In my opinion, the Lafourche Parish elected officials are as pathetic as the US Congress.  Should the elected officials work for or against the tax payers?
1. The tax payers of Lafourche lost money when George Randolph wrecked a parish vehicle.  The people responsible for protecting the tax payers, did not.  They protected their own.  It is alleged that the Sheriff, DA and the Lafourche Parish Council are protecting the Parish President rather than the tax payers.  Charging the people a fee for the installation of culverts is another example of the DA and Council giving the parish president more money at the expense of the tax payers.  Where are the sheriff and the DA on the $5.3 million blunder (WATER WEENIE) charged to the tax payers.  Are they protecting Charlotte Randolph, Phillip Gouaux, Brent Callais, Cullen Curole and others?  They are not not not not serving in the best interest of the tax payers of Lafourche Parish.

Stay in touch.  Next month we can choose a congressman and additional taxes.  Next year we can choose a sheriff, council and a parish President.  We will also have an opportunity to choose our state officials next year.
The DA election is in the fall of 2008.

Is voting in Lafourche Parish a Duty?

FACTS:

A host of a popular talk show on Cable TV stated that more young people should exercise their right to vote.  A guest on the talk show asked why should they?  The guest continued by explaining his position.  If a voter is not educated on the issues or do not know a candidate’s position on an issue, it would be better not to vote.  It is alleged that Capt. Kirk, host of KLRZ “Talk on the Bayou”, stated that voting is a duty.  I disagree.

OPINIONS:

In my opinion, a voter may want to understand all of the issues and the real reasons behind a candidate running, or not vote at all.  When voters cast a vote without understanding the issues, America can end up with a do-nothing Congress which has a popularity rating of less than 30%.  Lafourche Parish could end up with do-nothing elected officials like Craig Webre, Cam Morvant, Charlotte Randolph, Phillip Gouaux, Brent Callais, etc.  No, Capt. Kirk, voting is not a duty, it is a choice.  It is a choice which must be taken seriously.

Terrebonne Parish recently held an election with one of the proposals being a tax for levee protection.  The voters (tax payers) had a choice to vote for or against the tax or not vote at all.  All three choices were equally important.

The voters of Lafourche Parish will have a choice in the South Lafourche area.  The South Lafourche Levee District will propose a one cent sales tax for levee improvements.  There are a few simple questions to answer before a voter exercise his/her choice.
1. Who are the people requesting our additional tax dollars?
2. Who will benefit?
3. Will the extra tax dollars benefit my family better in a bank account or at the whims of the South Lafourche Levee District Board?
Should the South Lafourche area experience a 28 feet tidal serge during a hurricane, the levied area in the South Lafourche community will have at least 15 feet of water for a long time, with or without the passage of the tax.  We may want to put our money towards evacuating our families rather than on a project which could do very little during a major storm event.

Keep in touch, voters have a choice, study your options before you decide.
