In Lafourche Parish, Who Knows?

FACTS:

When one travels abroad and do not speak the language of the country he is visiting, he can visit the embassy of his country and acquire pertinent information.  After viewing last Tuesday’s Lafourche Parish Council Meeting, one would think that the Council and the administration was in a foreign country and could not find the American embassy.  The actions of the Council and administration lead one to believe that no one present had a clue to what was happening.

OPINIONS:

An organization known as Lafourche First helped convince Lafourche parish to elect our present day Parish President and Council.  The parish is now feeling the effects of its loss of institutional knowledge.  This administration has been in office for three years and display the same lack of knowledge as when they first took office.  The previous council, if still in office, would be completed with all of the road projects and libraries.  Instead of being over budget like this administration is, they would have been under budget.
In my opinion, this administration has very little government knowledge and depend on the DA’s knowledge much too much.  The Council approved and constructed a undersized water line along East 40th Street in Cut Off.  This project is in violation of the parish’s sub-division ordinance and could lead to the loss of state funding to the entire parish.  The Council also approved using 4-way stop signs to control speed on a parish street, which is in violation of parish ordinances and state law.  The District Attorney, legal advisor to the Council, was made aware of both violations and allowed the violations to continue.  The council determined that the tax payers must reimburse the parish for the installation of culverts.  The DA agreed.  The installation of culverts by the parish has not been proven to be against the law.
This DA has been in office for four years and the council for three years.  How many more years must the tax payers of Lafourche Parish continue paying these people for on-the-job training, before they can gain the necessary institutional knowledge to work for and not against the tax-payers of Lafourche?

Stay in touch, knowledge is power except with this group of elected officials, where the lack of knowledge is power.
