Optimistic Tax Payers of Lafourche Parish

FACTS:

The tax payers of Lafourche Parish are some of the most generous people in the state of Louisiana.  Of the 64 parishes in the state of Louisiana, Lafourche parish collects one of the highest amount of millage and may soon be the highest taxed tax payers in the state.

OPINIONS:

The tax payers of Lafourche Parish were optimistic at one time.  It is alleged that they are now frustrated with the deception by some of the elected officials and a few appointed board members.  On yesterday’s KLRZ “Talk on the Bayou”, hosted by Captain Kirk, were guest individuals attempting to talk the tax payers of Lafourche into paying even more taxes than they are currently paying.  The discussion by the guests, who were representing the South Lafourche Levee District, had the appearance of being the zenith of deception and contradiction.
Case-in-point, the president of the South Lafourche Levee District is also the president of the board of directors of the Lady of the Sea General Hospital.  Earlier this year, the director of the Lady of the Sea appeared as a guest on Talk on the Bayou.  The director stated that the hospital was operating in the “BLACK” (keep in mind that the hospital pay a huge amount of money for advertising on KLRZ) and Capt. Kirk marveled at the fact that this was the first time the hospital operated in the black.  In my opinion, it wasn’t a true fact then and is far from a true fact today.  Deception?  Contradiction?  All Captain Kirk has to do is request a true copy of the financial condition of the hospital and report to the tax payers.  Will Captain Kirk do it?  Will the hospital continue to advertise with KLRZ?
Deception and contradiction on KLRZ, by guests?  The South Lafourche Levee District is asking the tax payers of the district to vote in favor of a one cent sales tax, dedicated to the South Lafourche Levee District.  The president of the board allegedly stated that if the tax do not pass, people will pay more for insurance.  Mr. Callais (president of the board) did not say, if it pass, the people will pay less for their insurance.  General Manager, Windell Curole allegedly stated that the board will not collect the tax if they get other sources of funding.  Mr. Curole is not a member of the board and cannot make that type of decision.  Mr. Callais was asked if they would consider another type of tax.  Mr. Callais allegedly stated that with a sales tax, the board could collect the the money quicker.  Does this sound like someone who will not collect the sales tax if the district receive other sources of funding?  In my opinion, it is the arrogance of the South Lafourche Levee District board and its General Manager that is preventing the district from receiving its so-called fair share of federal funding.

Keep in touch, some of these boards, as with the Parish President, Sheriff and the DA, believe they are the cat’s meow at the tax payers expense.
