OPINION:
Once upon a time there was a little old lady who wrecked her automobile. Her automobile was brought to the repair shop. The little old lady asked her insurance provider if they would pay for a rental automobile. The insurance provider said that they would pay for her rental as long as her automobile would be in the shop. The little old lady rented an expensive luxury car. That same day, the little old lady’s car was repaired and there was no need for a rental. The little old lady felt that she could keep the repair date a secret from the insurance company and decided to keep the luxury car for an additional 30 days. Ten months went by and the insurance company found out about the rental scam. The little old lady never really needed a rental. when asked why she kept the rental for 30 days, she said she kept it in the event she would have another wreck. She was successfully prosecuted. No, not in Lafourche Parish.
The above fiction story has similarities to the alleged Lafourche Parish “Water Weenies” scam.
1. Was there ever a need for the rental of the inflatable flood protection device?
2. Why is the Lafourche Parish tax payers being invoiced for so many devices?
3. Why were the devices kept for 30 days after the so-called danger was over?
4. Why did the Parish President and other 7 individuals keep the whole incident a secret from the Lafourche Parish Governing Authority and the media?
5. Should the eight people be indicted and prosecuted?
6. If Council members vote to pay for the alleged scam, should they be indicted and prosecuted?
7. If the Sheriff and District Attorney ignore the whole incident and another body investigate the matter and end up with indictments, should the Sheriff and District Attorney be indicted and prosecuted?
Stay in touch, rent only what is necessary and have a little faith in our judicial system. It isn’t over until it’s over.
